Honoring POW/MIAs and designating the third week of September as POW/MIA RECOGNITION WEEK, and Friday, September 17, 1999, as POW/MIA DAY.

Whereas, Veterans in the State of West Virginia have distinguished themselves with the highest dedication, and West Virginia has contributed the greatest number of veterans per capita of any state in the union; and
Whereas, There are numbers of West Virginians who witnessed the deaths of their brothers and sisters in arms during their captivity; and
Whereas, There are a number of MIAs still missing in action and their whereabouts are known only to God; and
Whereas, West Virginians still grieve our friends and family members listed on the rolls of "MISSING IN ACTION" from the War Between the States to Desert Storm; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That on behalf of all of West Virginia's veterans we hereby designate and set aside the third week in September as POW/MIA RECOGNITION WEEK and the third Friday, September 17, 1999, as POW/MIA DAY to honor these valiant soldiers; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Governor and the West Virginia Veterans Coalition.
